Official Import Rules

Syria requires an import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, a valid rabies vaccination certificate (at least 30 days old), a veterinary health certificate issued within 10 days of travel, and microchip identification (ISO standard).

Due to the ongoing conflict and changing territorial control, import procedures vary significantly by region and entry point.

Contact the nearest Syrian embassy for current requirements and confirm which border crossings accept pet imports.

City & Housing Tips

Damascus is the capital and has the most infrastructure. Lattakia and Tartus on the coast are relatively more stable. Aleppo is slowly rebuilding. Veterinary services for companion animals are severely limited throughout the country.

Vets & Common Parasites

Veterinary care was significantly disrupted by the conflict. Some clinics operate in Damascus and major cities, but supplies and specialist care are very limited. Bring medications and supplies.

The rabies titer test for Syria takes time — blood must be drawn at least 30 days after vaccination, and lab results take 2–3 weeks. Don't leave this to the last minute.

Given Syria's complex import process, many relocators recommend hiring a licensed pet transport agent.
