Official Import Rules
Jamaica has strict import requirements. Cats need an ISO microchip, rabies vaccination, and a government-endorsed veterinary health certificate.
An import permit from the Veterinary Services Division (VSD) of the Ministry of Agriculture is required — apply at least 4 weeks before travel. Additional requirements include FVRCP vaccination and internal/external parasite treatment.
According to the official VSD guidelines, cats and dogs must arrive directly into Kingston (Norman Manley International Airport) as the designated port of entry. Arrival through any other port, including Montego Bay (Sangster International), is only permitted if specifically authorized by the Director of Veterinary Services.

Microchip (ISO 11784/11785)
Rabies vaccination
The VSD does not specify two doses 30 days apart. A single rabies vaccination is required, followed by a FAVN titer test drawn at least 30 days after vaccination. The specific dosing schedule is determined by the import permit and the pre-export treatment schedule issued by the VSD.

Quarantine Information
Quarantine is not automatically mandatory for all arriving cats. The inspecting veterinary officer determines at the port of entry whether the animal will be released or held for quarantine, based on health status and document compliance.
If quarantine is required, animals are held at the National Quarantine Facility at Plumb Point for up to 14 days.
City & Housing Tips
Kingston and Montego Bay have vet facilities. Jamaica has a growing pet culture. Vet care is adequate in Kingston but limited in rural areas. Many villas and gated communities welcome cats.
Vets & Common Parasites
Moderate vet care in Kingston. Limited in tourist areas. The Jamaica Veterinary Medical Association regulates the profession. A few clinics offer good quality care. Emergency services are limited outside Kingston.
