Official Import Rules
Taiwan requires an ISO microchip, an import permit from APHIA, a government-endorsed health certificate issued within 10 days of travel, and rabies vaccination. For cats from rabies-infected countries, a primary rabies vaccination must be given when the cat is at least 90 days old, no less than 90 days before shipment and no more than 1 year before shipment. Booster vaccinations must be given at least 30 days and no more than 1 year before shipment. Only inactivated rabies vaccines are accepted.
Cats from rabies-infected countries also need a rabies neutralising antibody titre test of at least 0.5 IU/ml. The standard titer test requirement is that blood must be drawn no less than 90 days and no more than 1 year before shipment. The 180-day blood-draw window applies specifically to the quarantine waiver pathway: if the blood was drawn between 90 and 180 days before arrival, the 7-day facility quarantine still applies.
Cats from Taiwan's designated rabies-free countries or zones, including Japan, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Guam, the UK, Sweden, Iceland, Norway excluding Svalbard, Estonia and Czech Republic, are generally released after on-site inspection when all documents are compliant. Cats from rabies-infected countries face a default 7-day post-entry quarantine at a designated facility, reduced from 21 days as of 29 February 2024, unless they meet Taiwan's quarantine waiver conditions.
