Official Import Rules
Chile requires a current rabies vaccination and a government-endorsed veterinary health certificate issued within 10 days of travel. The health certificate must be bilingual — written in both Spanish and the official language of the country of origin — as required under SAG Resolution 6508/2021.
A broad-spectrum internal and external antiparasitic treatment is also mandatory under Resolution 6508/2021. It must be administered between 5 and 30 days before entry, and the certificate must record the active ingredient, dosage, and date of application.
A microchip is recommended but not strictly required. No import permit is needed for personal pet cats. SAG (Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero) inspects animals on arrival at Santiago (SCL) airport.
Chile is rabies-free in domestic animals since 1972, making it one of the safest destinations in the Americas.
