✓ Cats in Cabin Airline

Pet Policy Overview

SWISS, Switzerland's flag carrier and a Lufthansa Group subsidiary, permits cats in the cabin and in the hold on most routes. The airline operates primarily from Zurich (ZRH) and Geneva (GVA), providing excellent connectivity across Europe and to major intercontinental destinations. SWISS benefits from the Lufthansa Group's well-established live animal handling infrastructure, and pets transiting through Zurich receive professional care. The cabin carrier size allowance of 55×40×23 cm is among the most generous in Europe.

Key Details

Pet Fee

CHF 80 (domestic/Europe cabin) / CHF 150–200 (intercontinental)

Pro Tip

Reserve your pet through the SWISS Service Centre at least 24 hours before departure. SWISS accepts both hard-sided and soft-sided carriers in the cabin, but soft-sided is recommended for comfort under the seat. The 8 kg cabin limit includes the carrier. SWISS shares the Lufthansa Group infrastructure, so if you are connecting through Frankfurt, your cat can benefit from the world-renowned Lufthansa Animal Lounge. Always confirm whether your specific flight is operated by SWISS or a Lufthansa Group partner.

Restrictions

Brachycephalic cat breeds are restricted from hold travel. Pets are not permitted in SWISS Business or First Class. Maximum one carrier per passenger. Pets cannot fly in the cabin to destinations requiring cargo-only import (UK, Australia, etc.). Pregnant animals are not accepted. SWISS may refuse pet transport during extreme weather conditions.
